Summer holidays

Many of our Ontario resorts, inns, lodges and cottage resorts are located on or near a body of water. When people book a vacation one of the first questions they ask "is it on the water?" Why is that? We cannot underestimate the calming effect of water.  It is an integral part of a vacation to help us recover and recharge away from our hectic lives.

A great website to read stories about places to visit, where to stay and what to do in Ontario is at www.ontario-tourist.com  Fall Colours are still present north of Toronto. In Muskoka region, it's called the Golden Encore where you'll see yellows and oranges as you travel the countryside.  The Bala Cranberry Festival is on during the weekend of October 18 but you can go to the cranberry farms anytime to see the harvest.

Summer weather finally came to Ontario during the first week of Fall! Summer temperatures are expected for the last week of September as the trees are showing their Fall colours. Environment Canada says this is rare. A string of great weather like this, hasn't happened for thirty years. If you can play hookey, call in sick at work or just take some time off, it will be well worth it. Driving tours around Haliburton, Muskoka and Algonquin park will view fall colours of beautiful reds and oranges. Boat tours or kayak trips will be amazing. Stay overnight at one of our many resorts, inns, lodges and cottage resorts.

There's still time to get some summer holidays before school starts. Children go back to school in 2 weeks in Ontario. Cottages and rooms are available at various price ranges throughout Ontario. All the summer activities are available to enjoy. Reconnect with family after a hectic year. Wolf howls take place in Algonquin Park each week in August. Fall colours viewing happens at the end of September and early October.

The Summer of 2014 has just started.  With the long winter, cool Spring and wet start to the Summer, there still are lots of rooms and cottages left for Summer vacation travelers. There's also a wide range of options from full luxury service to a basic cabin in the woods. The water temperature has warmed up suitable for swimming and water sports like kayaking and canoeing. Please visit our Last Minute page, Vacancies this week and Summer Packages page for the most up to date information.

ATV Trails have opened for the season.  There's a variety of trails in Central and Northern Ontario for the beginner up to the expert level rider.  You don't have to get muddy and wet to enjoy ATVing. !  We are experiencing Summer like weather during the last week of May.  This will warm up the lakes after a long cold winter. People will be swimming in no time. Peninsula Lake near Huntsville Muskoka is great for Bass (not open in spring), Pike (opens 3rd Sat May), and also Lake trout. Cedar Grove Lodge - We offer all non motorized boats free of charge to guests, including canoes and row boats for fishing.  We rent 14 ft aluminum 8hp motor boats.
Most find that the best fishing spot is right off our dock!  Especially fun for the kids to catch the rock bass and sunfish, while Mom or Dad try for the Pike.
We promote catch and release at Cedar Grove Lodge www.cedargrove.on.ca
West Nipissing Resort - We offer 2 great specials for fisherman this spring. 1) two bedroom cottage sleeping four people and a boat for $999 for one full week‎ 2) three days and two nights fishing for $50/person/day/3 people sharing. Includes three person boat and a two bedroom cottage. Opening weekend is May 16th (Victoria day weekend) fish include : walleye, pike, bass, muskie, and perch www.WestNipissingResort.com
There's still lots of snow to "play" in throughout Ontario. The weather forecast says that we will have colder than normal conditions.  Combine that with the huge amount of snow that has been received and you get a winter playground of activities.  The snowmobile trails will be able to stay open at least until the end of March.  Ice fishing on the lakes will be offered right until the end of season rather than closing early as they have had to do in past years. Skiing, dog sledding and snow shoeing as well as ice skating on a frozen lake are all special Winter activities available to enjoy.
Snowy Winter conditions are found throughout central and Northern Ontario. All of the fun winter activities - snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, skiing, ice fishing are available. There's much more snow than last year and that's after the January Thaw that happened mid January.  There's so much snow that roofs had to be shovelled for the first time in many years.  Ice skating rinks on lakes and ponds have opened and there's an ice skating trail through the woods in Arrowhead Provincial Park just north of Huntsville, Muskoka for a special winter experience.  Many resorts, cottages, inns and lodges are open in the winter.  Snuggle up beside a Warm fireplace after a ski or snowshoe hike through the forest.  Relax in a Jacuzzi hot tub.

Snow has arrived and the ski hills are opening up.  There will be a white Christmas in Cottage and Resort country. Bringing in the  New Years in a hot tub under the stars sounds exciting!  Dog sledding skating, skiing and snowmobiling are just some of the activities you can enjoy.   Wonderful weather in October has made central Ontario the best place to see the trees turn colour. The water temperature has stayed warm enough for some to go swimming. Others have gone kayaking or canoeing for the first time in summer like weather. Not all accommodation closes after Thanksgiving weekend.  Half of the properties stay open year round.  Tree top trekking and zip line are examples of activities you can do anytime of the year.  Beautiful Fall Colours and warmer temperatures make this an excellent time for travel. Algonquin Park is reporting Peak conditions for viewing the leaves as of September 28.  Muskoka region of Huntsville, and Bracebridge and Lake of Bays is reporting 50%.  The water temperature in the lakes is still warm enough for a swim!   Fall colours are upon us. People are still in swimming but not for too much longer! Canoe or kayak along a river.  See a waterfall. Wildlife is more visible now that there's less tourists around. Fall fairs happen almost every weekend in Ontario towns. Car shows and Autumn studio tours are happening on the weekends.

Hot summer weather has returned to Ontario. Family vacation time has two weeks left before back to school for the children and back to work for the adults. Summer activities to consider are swimming in a lake, learning to canoe or kayak. Test your skill on a water trampoline, go on a hike, attend a wolf howl in Algonquin Park, check out the antique boats and classic cars at a town fair. After Labour day weekend, the water is still warm. Summer weather continues far into September. It's a quieter time with the children back at school.
August brings street fairs, outdoor patios, arts and crafts shows, evening concerts in the park. This is the month when the people of Ontario choose to take their holidays. Many have waited until the last minute to book their hotel, resort or cottage.  There still are some vacancies.  The temperature at night is pleasant for sleeping and warm enough for sun bathing, swimming and water sports.
July brought a big change in the temperature.  Summer arrived Hot Hot Hot! The water temperature even in the big lakes has warmed up dramatically. The beaches of Ontario are the place to go to cool off. All the summer activities are in full swing - tubing, water skiing, canoeing kayaking, swimming to name a few. Because the Spring was wet and cold and the Summer has just arrived, there are still a number of Vacancies throughout Ontario in resorts, inns, lodges and cottage resorts. Please check out our Summer vacancies page or our Last Minute deals page for a list of properties to contact.

We are nearing the end of June. Summer arrives tomorrow. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, and the new sensation stand up paddleboards are ready for summer vacation.  The water temperature in the lakes is cool but you are still able to swim. There are water trampolines, water slides and rafts waiting for play.

May has started off with Summer weather. Canoeing, kayaking activities have begun.  Fishing seasons are opening.  Now that the ice is off the Ontario lakes, the fish are still close to the surface. No need for special equipment.  Moose sightings are the norm in Algonquin park in May. Many seasonal resorts and lodges are opening up for Spring and Summer guests. April has arrived but Winter weather is holding on.  The snow is melting and the ice on the lakes is melting too. As soon as the ice is gone, the fishing begins. With the water being so cold, the fish are found close to the surface. No special equipment is required to catch a BIG one! The Easter long weekend is upon us and there still is snow to the north.  In Muskoka the snowmobile trails are still open and the ice fishing huts don't come off the lakes until March 31. You can snow ski or snow shoe on the trails one last time.  With the weather forecast predicting warmer weather, the snow will not last much longer. March Break is about to come to an end. There is still great snow conditions north of Barrie.  However, the ice huts have to come off the lakes soon and the spring thaw is about to happen. By mid April there will be lakes that have lost their ice so that the fishermen and women with motor boats will come out of storage.  The Spring fishing season will begin for Trout, and later on for walleye and pickerel. Great winter snow conditions have finally come to Ontario. The snowmobile trails are open. The ski hills and resorts are boasting the best conditions in many seasons. The temperatures are warming up so it's fun to play outside in the snow! The family weekend will be a great time to have some fun or consider a romantic getaway. Celebrate Valentine's day with your special someone at an Ontario lodge, inn or resort.

The Winter activities are starting up. Skiing, snowboarding, ice skating on the lake. Dog sledding and snowshoeing are available over the holidays.  Soon the snowmobile trails will open for the 2013 season in Ontario.

There has been a little bit of snow in the north but not enough to stay on the ground yet.  Deer can be seen, especially in the early morning and at night crossing the road.  Drive with special care.

Wildlife viewing is very popular at this time of year. The leaves have fallen from the trees making it easier to see moose or deer in the forest.  Moose can be seen in Algonquin Park not far from HWY 60. Many Ontario resorts are open year round to enable tourists to enjoy all the seasons in comfort.

Spring has come early to Ontario. Excellent opportunities for fishing, nature watching for moose, deer and migrating birds.

Ontario Ski resorts at Blue Mountain, Hidden Valley, Snow Valley and Horseshoe Valley have made enough snow to start operations for the 2011/2012 season. Limited conditions are being offered for downhill skiing and snowboarding.

Snow has come and gone but will soon stay for the Winter.  Ski hills will be making snow in time for Christmas holidays.
